The term “yuppie” is a foreign word for many people. What does that actually mean and where do these “yuppies” come from? This term means something like “Young urban professional” which translates as much as “Young adults of the upper middle class”. But there is more to the term than you might think. The description “Young career-conscious, big city people” is much more accurate.
Last year it was already indicated that Nike will put more and more work into their dunks. The Nike SB team in particular showed what they’re able to do in the first quarter of 2020. Numerous Dunk Low silhouettes came and will come onto the market, put Adidas in their place and sell like hot cakes. The collab with Travis Scott was a worldwide success, but the “Plum” and J-Pack “Shadow” also caused a sensation.
The 39-year-old Virgil Abloh, originally from Rockford, Illinois, has never graduated in design. He developed his penchant for creativity in his childhood. His mother was a seamstress, and his father had his own painting company. Abloh has gone a long way, and everyone is now talking about his label “Off-White”, he is a fashion designer, entrepreneur, architect, artist and DJ.
The sneaker store Afew in Düsseldorf / Germany is probably familiar to most sneakerheads. However, the journey to global fame for owners Andreas and Marco Biergen was a long one. A shared passion for basketball and sneakers led them to open the store in 2008, and the Koi collab with Asics, in particular, is what opened the door to the world for them. But how did this collaboration, which is already steeped in history, come to life?
The Adidas Stan Smith endorsement is one of the most successful brand sponsorships in history, if not the most enduring and deserves our Respekt. More surprising is that the greatest crossover shoe, possibly ever, doesn’t originate from the streets and b-ball courts of Brooklyn, but from the courts of Flushing Meadows!
Most of us think of art as being the preserve of rich, eccentric auteurs who collect hundreds of year old oil on canvas creations gifted to the world by the so called ‘Masters’. But, these days ‘art’ is much more diverse and eclectic and accessible than that; at long last street artists and graffiti are being spoken of with the same reverence and Respekt as renaissance painters.
In grade 9 Ralph Lee Sampson Junior was already 7-feet tall. If you were a 7-foot tall African American teenager in 1970’s and you wanted a little Respekt, you played basketball. It was that simple. So, that’s what Ralph Sampson did. And, as they say, the rest is history.
RS-X Colour Theory takes old school style to art school with geometric shapes and complementary colours. PUMA’s Running System cushioning tech serves up support and comfort, while the bulky, disruptive silhouette is designed for an eye-catching look in the streets. Respekt.
According to rumours, the collaboration between Nike and Virgil Abloh and his brand Off White should actually be over after “The Ten”, but that’s not how it’s going to be. After the Zoom Terra Kiger 5, new colorways of the Nike Dunk Low are expected to release by the end of this year. The first one could already be ready this month. It’s all about the colorway “Pine Green”, which might be on most sneakerheads wish list.
For the Nike Air Jordan, the road to sneaker glory wasn’t always a foregone conclusion. In fact, at one point, basketball bureaucracy threatened to rob us all of a piece of history. But then, enter our own modern day sneaker Robin Hood – MJ himself; this man demanded Respekt – and he got it.
